IPL betting

IPL betting, from the first ball to the final

The short answer

IPL betting means staking money on something that happens in an Indian Premier League match or season: the winner, the toss, runs in the powerplay, a batter's score, or which team lifts the trophy. Every IPL match on KhelKing has pre-match markets and live markets that update ball by ball, and the same ID carries over from one season to the next.

01Markets

The IPL markets fans bet on most

Five of these settle within a single match. Season outrights run from the first game to the final.

  • Match odds

    Who wins the match?

Back the team you think will win. If the scores finish level, a Super Over decides it, so there's always a winner.

Prices often move after the toss and the playing XIs, so waiting can get you a better one.

  • Toss winner

    Who calls it right?

A bet on which captain wins the coin toss. It settles before the first ball is bowled.

It's a coin flip, so keep the stake small.

  • Powerplay runs

How many in the first six overs?

Over or under a line for runs in the powerplay, when only two fielders are allowed outside the circle.

Compare the line with recent powerplay scores at the same ground.

  • Session runs

How many by over 10, 15 or 20?

Yes and No lines on a team's score at set points in the innings. Runs come fastest at the death, so the later lines climb quickly.

The session betting guide explains how each line settles.

  • Player runs and wickets

    How will one player do?

Lines on a batter's runs or a bowler's wickets, along with top batter and top bowler for each team.

Batting position matters. An opener faces far more balls than a finisher.

  • Season outrights

    Who wins the whole thing?

The champion, the playoff qualifiers, the Orange Cap for the top run-scorer and the Purple Cap for the top wicket-taker.

Early prices are bigger, but an injury or a dip in form can wipe out a bet weeks before the final.

How does IPL betting work?

Pick a market and you'll see a decimal price. If your bet wins, you get your stake times that price. ₹500 at 1.90 returns ₹950, and ₹1,000 at 2.10 returns ₹2,100.

Prices change after almost every ball. Markets pause for a few seconds after a wicket, a boundary or a review while the price resets. KhelKing is an exchange, so you can also lay a team to lose, or lay the side you backed to lock in a profit.

02Format

How is the IPL tournament structured?

Ten teams play 14 league games each, and the top four reach the playoffs. Finishing in the top two is worth a lot: those teams get two chances to reach the final, so their outright prices shorten in the last weeks of the league.

How the playoffs work
  1. Qualifier 1

    1st v 2nd

Winner goes to the final. Loser gets another chance in Qualifier 2.

  2. Eliminator

    3rd v 4th

Winner goes to Qualifier 2. Loser is out.

  3. Qualifier 2

    Q1 loser v Eliminator winner

    Winner goes to the final.

  4. Final

    Q1 winner v Q2 winner

Decides the champion, the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap.

03Conditions

How do IPL venues and dew affect the odds?

The ground

Small grounds with flat pitches produce big totals. Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru is the best-known example. Slower pitches, such as Chepauk in Chennai, help spinners and keep scores down.

Dew

In night games, dew makes the ball wet and hard to grip, which usually helps the team batting second. Afternoon games see much less of it, so the toss matters less.

04Impact Player

What is the Impact Player rule and how does it change betting?

An extra batter or bowler when it counts

Each team names substitutes before the match and can bring one of them in during the game. Teams chasing a target often swap a bowler for an extra batter, so line-ups bat deeper than they used to.

That's pushed totals up, and late session lines with them. When you compare a line with older scores at a ground, remember that seasons before the rule had shorter batting orders.

What should I check before betting on an IPL match?

  • The confirmed playing XIs, and which players are listed as Impact Player options.
  • The toss result, and whether the winner chose to bat or bowl.
  • The pitch report and the weather, including the chance of rain.
  • Overseas players. A team can field only four, so one injury can force a change in balance.
  • Strike bowlers. Losing one can move a price more than the team's place in the table.

05Rain

What happens to IPL bets if rain shortens a match?

Result, no result, and part-played markets

Match odds follow the official result, including a DLS result in a shortened game. If the match is abandoned with no result, match bets are usually void and your stake comes back.

Session and player bets only stand if the overs they cover were bowled. A tie goes to a Super Over for match odds, while innings markets settle on the main innings. The betting rules cover every case.

08FAQ

IPL betting questions

Can't find your answer? Our support team is online 24/7.

01

Can I bet on IPL matches live?

Yes. Every IPL match has live markets that update after almost every ball. They pause for a few seconds after a wicket, a boundary or a review, then reopen at the new price.

02

What's the best IPL market for a beginner?

Match odds. It's a straight choice between two teams. Once you know how a ground usually scores, powerplay runs is a good next step.

03

How are IPL winnings worked out?

Multiply your stake by the decimal odds. ₹500 at 1.90 returns ₹950, which is ₹450 profit. Winnings go to your balance as soon as the market settles.

04

What are the Orange Cap and Purple Cap markets?

Season-long bets on the top run-scorer (Orange Cap) and the top wicket-taker (Purple Cap). They settle after the final.

05

What happens to IPL bets if it rains?

Match odds follow the official result, including a DLS result in a shortened match. If the match is abandoned with no result, match bets are usually void. Session and player bets stand only if their overs were bowled.

06

What happens to my bet if an IPL match is tied?

A Super Over decides the winner, and match odds settle on that result. Innings markets such as sessions and player runs settle on the overs played in the main innings.

07

Does my KhelKing ID work after the IPL season ends?

Yes. The same ID covers international cricket, other T20 leagues, football, tennis and the casino all year round.
