Cricket betting

Cricket betting, from the toss to the last ball

The short answer

Cricket betting means staking money on something that happens in a match: who wins, who calls the toss right, or how many runs a team has after a set number of overs. On KhelKing you back a selection if you think it will happen and lay it if you think it won't. One ID covers pre-match and live markets for the IPL, international cricket and T20 leagues.

Key takeaways

  • You'll see six markets most often: match odds, the toss, sessions, top batter and bowler, player runs, and sixes or boundaries.
  • T20 is the easiest format to start with. Matches last about three and a half hours and a draw isn't possible.
  • Wickets, the run rate against the required rate, and dew in night games move prices the most.
  • A back bet's profit is your stake times the odds minus one, so ₹500 at 1.80 makes ₹400 and returns ₹900.
  • Every big competition

IPL, WPL, ICC events, bilateral series and overseas T20 leagues.

  • Ball by ball

Prices update through the match, and markets stay open between deliveries.

  • Back or lay

Bet on something happening or against it, and trade out while play goes on.

  • One balance

The same ID and wallet you use for the casino and other sports.

At a glance

Key takeaways

  1. KhelKing cricket covers the IPL and WPL, ICC tournaments, international cricket, the Big Bash, SA20 and selected domestic matches.
  2. Live cricket markets pause for a few seconds after a wicket, a review or a boundary, then reopen at a new price.
  3. Back bet profit is your stake times the odds minus one, so ₹500 at 1.80 makes ₹400.
  4. T20 is the easiest format to start with: matches are short and there's no draw to think about.
  5. A coin toss has no form to study, so treat a toss bet as a small one for fun.

01Markets

The cricket markets you'll see most

Each one asks a different question about the match. For fancy markets and how sessions settle, see the session betting guide.

  • Match odds

    Who wins?

The main market on every match. In a Test there's a third selection, the draw, and it often trades at a short price when rain is forecast.

Wait for the playing XI. A missing strike bowler can move the price before the first ball.

  • Toss winner

    Who calls it right?

Settles on the coin toss and closes before it. The result is close to a coin flip, so neither side has an edge worth paying for.

Keep toss stakes small. It's a bit of fun, not a market you can read.

  • Session runs

How many runs by over 6, 10 or 20?

KhelKing shows a line of runs for a set over. Back, or bet Yes, if you think the team reaches it. Lay, or bet No, if you think they fall short.

Compare the line with the average score at that ground before you bet.

  • Top batter and bowler

Who scores or takes the most?

Pick the player who finishes top for their team. Prices depend on batting order, recent form and how the pitch is expected to play.

Openers face the most balls in a T20, which counts for a lot here.

  • Player runs

Over or under a batter's line?

A Yes and No line on one batter's score. It settles on the official scorecard and is void if the player isn't in the playing XI.

Check where they're batting today. A move down the order cuts their expected balls faced.

  • Sixes and boundaries

    How many fours and sixes?

A total for the innings or the match. Ground size matters more here than in any other market.

Small grounds such as Chinnaswamy and Wankhede usually push these lines up.

02How it works

How does cricket betting work?

What does a cricket bet pay?

KhelKing shows decimal odds. On a back bet, your profit is the stake times the odds minus one. Back a team for ₹500 at 1.80 and a win pays ₹400 profit, so ₹900 comes back to your balance.

A lay bet works the other way round. You take the bookmaker's side, so you win the backer's stake if the selection loses and pay their profit if it wins. The cricket bet guide has a practice slip that shows both outcomes before you bet for real.

Do cricket odds change during a match?

After almost every ball. Markets pause for a few seconds after a wicket, a review or a boundary while the price resets, then reopen. If the price moves your way, you can lay the selection you backed to lock in a profit before the match ends.

How are cricket bets settled?

On the official result and scorecard. A rain-reduced match decided by the DLS method counts as a result for match odds. If it's abandoned with no result, match odds bets are usually void and stakes are returned.

Session and player bets need their overs bowled to stand, and a session is void if the overs are cut after the market opened. The betting rules list every case, including super overs.

03Formats

Which cricket format is easiest for beginners?

T20. It's short, can't end in a draw and has the simplest markets. ODIs sit in the middle, and Tests take the most reading.

T2020 overs a side, about 3.5 hoursNo (ties go to a super over)Fast; prices swing on single oversMatch odds, sessions, sixes

04Price movers

What changes cricket odds during a match?

  • Wickets

The biggest single mover. A wicket in the powerplay can shift match odds and every open session at once.

  • Run rate against required rate

In a chase, the gap between the two decides most of the price. Watch it over by over.

  • Dew in night games

A wet ball is harder to grip, which usually helps the side batting second.

  • Pitch and boundary size

Pitch reports at the toss and the ground's dimensions set the early lines for runs and sixes.

  • Weather

Overcast skies help swing bowlers. Rain brings DLS targets and, in Tests, a better chance of a draw.

  • Team news

Injuries, late changes to the XI and the IPL's Impact Player substitute all reprice the match.

05IPL and more

Can I bet on IPL matches on KhelKing?

Every IPL match, before and during play

Yes. Each IPL game has pre-match and live markets: match odds, the toss, sessions, top batter and bowler, player runs and sixes. The Impact Player rule means a team can bring in a substitute mid-match, so prices can jump when the substitute is named.

The IPL betting guide covers the playoff format, dew, season outrights and the Orange and Purple Cap.

Which other cricket can I bet on?

  • Women's Premier League (WPL)
  • ICC World Cups and the Champions Trophy
  • Test, ODI and T20 international series
  • Overseas leagues such as the Big Bash and SA20
  • Selected domestic matches

07FAQ

Cricket betting questions

Can't find your answer? Our support team is online 24/7.

01

Can I bet on cricket while the match is live?

Yes. Markets stay open through the match. They pause for a few seconds after a wicket, a review or a boundary while the price resets, then reopen.

02

Is the toss market really 50/50?

Close to it. A coin toss has no form or conditions to study, so treat it as a small bet for fun.

03

Which cricket competitions can I bet on?

The IPL and WPL, ICC tournaments, international Tests, ODIs and T20s, overseas leagues such as the Big Bash and SA20, and selected domestic matches.

04

Can I bet on IPL matches on KhelKing?

Yes. Every IPL match has pre-match and live markets, including match odds, the toss, sessions and player markets, on the same ID you use for everything else.

05

How do I work out what a cricket bet pays?

For a back bet, profit is your stake times the odds minus one. ₹500 at 1.80 makes ₹400 profit, and you get ₹900 back in total. A lay bet risks the backer's profit to win their stake.

06

Which cricket format is best for a beginner?

T20. Matches are short, there's no draw to think about, and the markets are the easiest to follow. Tests take longer to read because weather and the draw both come into play.
