In-play guide

How to place a live bet

Betting while the ball is still in the air.

Live betting lets you act on what you're watching: a collapse, a big over, a bowling change. This guide covers how to place an in-play bet on KhelKing, what moves the odds, and how to trade out before the last ball.

At a glance

Key takeaways

  1. Live cricket odds can move after every ball, because a wicket or boundary changes the chance of each result.
  2. To lock in a profit, lay at a lay stake equal to your back stake times your back odds, divided by the current odds.
  3. ₹100 backed at 3.00 and laid at 2.00 needs a ₹150 lay and leaves ₹50 profit whatever happens.
  4. TV and streams often run a few seconds behind, so the price can move before you see the ball.

01In brief

What is live in-play betting?

Live betting, also called in-play betting, means betting on a match while it's being played. On KhelKing you open In-Play, pick a live market and back or lay at the current price. The odds move after every ball, so you can also trade out of a bet before the end to lock in a profit or cut a loss.

02Six steps

How do you place a live bet?

The bet slip works the same as before the match. What changes is the speed: prices move between balls, so decide before you tap.

  1. 01Step 1 of 6

    Open In-Play

Log in and open In-Play. It lists the matches being played right now, with markets that stay open through the game.

  2. 02Step 2 of 6

    Pick a live market

Match odds asks who wins from here. The current session asks how many runs the batting side will have by a set over, and fancy and player markets cover the next wicket or a batter's score.

Pick one market and follow it closely. Jumping between several at once is how stakes creep up.

  3. 03Step 3 of 6

    Watch what moves the price

A wicket lengthens the batting side's odds. A big over shortens them. Bowling changes, the end of the powerplay and rain in the air all move prices, so read the match before you read the numbers.

  4. 04Step 4 of 6

    Bet at the current price

Tap the price, enter your stake and confirm. Live prices change fast, and if the price moves before another player takes your bet, it can wait as unmatched. We can suspend a market at any time, and no bets are accepted while it's suspended.

Decide your stake before the over starts. Typing it while the bowler runs in leads to mistakes.

  5. 05Step 5 of 6

    Manage your position

If the price moves your way, lay the selection you backed at the new, lower price to lock in a profit whatever happens. If it moves against you, the same trade lets you take a smaller loss now instead of a full one later.

  6. 06Step 6 of 6

    Let it settle

Bets you keep open settle on the official result, and any winnings go straight to your balance. If a settlement looks wrong, send support the match, market, stake and odds within 7 days.

03Momentum

What makes live cricket odds move?

Live odds follow each side's chance of winning from the current position. Anything that changes that chance changes the price, and in cricket that can happen on any ball.

Wicket
Batting side's odds lengthen, often sharply
Boundaries
Batting side's odds shorten
Dot-ball overs
Required rate climbs and the chase drifts
Bowling change
Prices shift with the bowler's record and the match-up
Rain or bad light
DLS par scores start to matter, and markets can be suspended
Illustration: one team's match odds during a T20 chase
  1. Start of the chase1.90 53% chance
  2. Two sixes in over 31.75 57% chance
  3. Opener out in over 72.30 43% chance
  4. Fifty partnership1.95 51% chance
  5. Two wickets in over 153.40 29% chance
  6. 20 needed off 12 balls1.60 63% chance

Example figures to show how prices react, not real match data. Shorter odds mean a higher chance of winning.

04Trading out

How do you lock in a profit before the end?

Lay the selection you backed at the current price. To get the same result whichever team wins, lay a stake equal to your back stake multiplied by your back odds, divided by the current odds.

Example: you back India for ₹100 at 3.00 and the price falls to 2.00. Laying ₹150 at 2.00 leaves you ₹50 up if India win and ₹50 up if they lose.

The price has shortened, so laying now locks in a profit whatever the result. Figures are before any commission.

05Mistakes

What should you avoid when betting live?

Live betting moves fast, and most of these come from deciding in a hurry.

  • Betting off a TV picture or stream that's running behind the live action.
  • Chasing every swing. Each extra bet adds risk, and the margin works against you on all of them.
  • Typing a stake in a rush and adding a zero.
  • Forgetting that a market can be suspended at any time, so you can't always get out when you want.
  • Raising your stakes to win back an earlier loss in the same match.

Questions about live betting

Can't find your answer? Our support team is online 24/7.

01

What is in-play betting?

Live betting, also called in-play betting, means betting on a match while it's being played. On KhelKing you open In-Play, pick a live market and back or lay at the current price. The odds move after every ball, so you can also trade out of a bet before the end to lock in a profit or cut a loss.

02

Why do live odds change so fast?

Live odds follow the chance of each result as the match unfolds. A wicket, a boundary or a bowling change alters that chance, so prices can move after every ball.

03

How do I lock in a profit on a live bet?

Lay the selection you backed once its odds have shortened. The lay stake that gives the same result either way is your back stake multiplied by your back odds, divided by the current odds. ₹100 backed at 3.00 and laid at 2.00 needs a ₹150 lay and leaves ₹50 profit whatever happens.

04

Is live betting riskier than betting before the match?

It asks for faster decisions, and it's easier to place more bets than you planned. It also lets you get out of a position before the end. Set a deposit limit before a big match if you want a hard cap.

05

Why wasn't my live bet accepted?

Either the market was suspended, and no bets are accepted while it is, or the price moved before another player took the other side, which leaves the bet unmatched.

06

Can I watch the match and bet at the same time?

Yes, many players follow the match on TV or a stream while they bet. Broadcasts often run a few seconds behind the live action, so the price can move before you see the ball.

Betting involves financial risk. Only stake money you can afford to lose. 18+ only.
